Projects Aug/Sep
Planning-Planning this project was easy, I think that's cause we had a representation of so many options for what to choose for a face. I knew exactly what I wanted to try to create, a face with a mustache.
Status-Waiting to be fired
Construction Process- I had to use many different tools when forming this face, I wanted to make sure my nose was creased so you can tell it's a nose. I wanted my mustache to have lots of detail and not to just look like an upper lip. I had to try multiple different times when forming the eyes and eyelids to make sure everything looked even and smooth. Reflection-This assignment was fun to make it was fun to score everything together and I didn't put too much pressure on myself. I lived in the moment. If i were to recreate this assignment I would probably choose a feminine face to construct. I am glad with what I will have though. I am excited to glaze the mustache and different facial features.
Face
Stamp
Plate
Planning- I had to make a redo on this project but it turns out I love what came out of it. I planned to have the stamp be my initials and have a heart design on it but it turned out to be the complete opposite. My first stamp wasn't eligible for firing so I decided to recreate it.
Status-Waiting to be fired
Construction Process- As I explained earlier on I had to completely redo this stamp and start from scratch. Still keeping my designs in mind. Instead of having the initials as the stamp it is now the heart. Instead of having the heart as the design on the stamp it is now my initials. I went for a different stamp style my second time around to make things more authentic.
Reflection- This stamp was frustrating to remake but I am glad that I did because now I will have a stamp to keep that I love. I had to do score and slip on the heart and use various tools to smooth it out and write my initials. I would make this project again and probably do a star instead of a heart in order to challenge myself. But I am happy with what I created. What went well with this project is I learned sometimes you have to just try again.
Planning- I originally had a sketch of this drawing for the plate I would like to make and I made just that. I didn't know what colors of glaze I would be playing around with but I knew I could figure it out.
Pinch Pot#1
Pinch Pot #2
Status- Waiting to be fired
Construction Process- I had to retry multiple times with the clay and re wedging it because I wanted to get the shape and texture that I felt most satisfied with. It was disappointing that it didn't originally get fired so I put on some glaze and crossed my fingers because I put a lot of effort into this plate.
Reflection- What I would do next time is watch a video for how to make a textured plate with designs. What I am happy with is the color scheme I chose yellow and purple. Overall I am happy I made this plate and Im excited to bring it home.
Planning- I knew exactly what I wanted to create in my head and that is exactly what I did. I knew that I was going to need to use Youtube to be happy with this pinch pot that I created.
Status-Waiting to be fired
Construction Process- I had to try multiple different times to get the pot I wanted and paid close attention to the video and the tools that were used to smooth it out. I used a darker green glaze for the leaves of the lemon and I used a lighter green glaze for the rest of the space surrounding the inside of the bowl as well as the outside of it, I used a yellow glaze for the lemon, who wants a pink lemon?
Reflection- If I were to create this project again I probably would have put a lot more detail into smoothing in out. What I think went well is the construction of the bowl itself and the design I chose complements it very well.
Planning- I knew what I wanted to try to create, a pinch pot with a lid on it and I moon on the surface of the pot. And I knew I was most likely going to have to score and slip the moon.
Status- Waiting to be fired
Construction Process- I had to try multiple different times to form the pot itself to get the shape and size I desired and that was frustrating. The lid itself was very easy to form and the ball was easy to score and slip. The moon was more difficult to score and slip I had to apply lots of pressure.
Reflection- Next time I would have watched a Youtube video on how to properly form the pot because I think I struggled with that the most. I think what went well was how I was able to form an idea in my head and create it in real life.
Pinch pot #3
Planning- This project was fairly easy to plan but I also just went along with it.
Status- Waiting to be fired
Construction Process- The star was very hard to form in straight and even lines. The pinch pot was even harder.
Reflection- Next time I would have watched a Youtube video so I could form a more authentic looking pot. I am happy with what I will get to glaze though.
Pinch Pot #4
Planning- I knew I wanted to try to create a pot with a flower on it.
Status-It didn't make it
Construction Process- I think this is where I failed the most, the pot itself was fine but the form I chose to construct the flower and it's petals went south.
Reflection-Next time I would have watched a Youtube video for how to create a small flower in ceramics so it didn't look so big and bulky. What went well with this project is im glad my mom was happy to get to keep this pot even though it never git a glaze.
Kitty Cat
Planning- This was not an easy project to plan, I knew I wanted to make a cat but I didn't know exactly what features I wanted it to have so I just went along with it.
Status- Waiting to be fired
Construction process- Everything was super easy to form and make besides the ears. I had to try multiple times with the ears making sure they were the same shape and size. I also scored and slipped them.
Reflection- What went well with this project is I got a cute cat out of it and I'm excited and optimistic to glaze it. I cant think of anything that didn't go well with this project or what I would do better next time :) I love it the way it is.
